Medical Care in India

According to the daily Yomiuri, in Emerging India; Foreigners taking advantage of cheap, high-quality medical care, “India celebrates the 60th anniversary of its independence this year, and where the nation is heading. In this article the author comparer between the private and public health service in India; he also show us the average of the medical cost in the world wide and India. Moreover, in this article we can see also the problem of Indian people that they don’t have enough service of medical care, because of the population and the few small number of doctors.

First, India still has a good background in medical care; a lot of Indian doctor work outside India because people believe in the medical service of it. In a privet clinic in New Delhi, 5,500 operations are conducted annually, and the success rate of the operations stands at 99.2 percent. According to the author. India provides a perfect medical service “the cost of treatment at the hospital is much cheaper than in other countries.” according to Hanada. Second, the government of India invites the people to enjoy the perfect and cheapest health service and she has “First World treatment at Third World prices." Medical Visas have started start in India since 2006, “visas are valid for a year, but can be extended if doctors issue certificates,” according to the government of India. In India there are a lot of places which are very neutral and there is a huge number of hospitals in India that look likes parks. “The minister said foreign patients and those accompanying them should enjoy playing golf or visiting places of scenic beauty and historic interest after operations in India, using money that would otherwise have been used for treatment in their own country,” according to Ambika Soni, the man who created the new type of visa. Hospitals in India try to get certification from the Joint Commission International, “five hospitals already have obtained certification,” according to JCI. India produces many doctors; some of them take an advantage in British and US .“India is thus becoming a medical power” according to Yomiuri. Worldwide there became interest in the private hospital of India because the perfect service that the has it, but in the other hand the public medical serves became worst on it, there are several reasons for that the general one that the doctors who work in the public service changed to the privet because the salary is very good. “As gaps between rich and poor widen in society as a whole, the situation likely will get worse.” according to Hanada.

People became interested about medical care in India, because private hospitals in India provide cheap and high quality service. Medical service costs a lot of money not only in the US but also around the world. For example, “James Shipp, 50, who came from Houston to accompany his 58-year-old cousin who underwent a cardiac operation at the hospital, and his cousin decided to come to India. They had been told in the United States that it would cost 150,000 dollars to 200,000 dollars for an operation. But in India, it cost only about 20,000 dollars.”

India started new system because it wanted to improve the health economy in it; moreover, India took this challenge and started the process they provide a new type of visa they called "medical visas", so people who want to come to India to take the medical service they should have this type of visa. For example, “foreign patients and those who accompanied them, such visas are valid for a year, but can be extended if doctors issue certificates.” according to Hanada.

Every year, India provides a lot of India doctors; for this result a lot of them go outside India to take advantage in the US and Britan. “India, whose population is know for its scientific and mathematic skills, is thus became “ a medical power,” according to Handa.

Private health service in India is know as perfect cheep and high quality of medical care, but on the other side India has a lot of problems in the public health service. A lot of doctors who work in the public service changed to the private service and some of them work outside the country because of the bad income salary. “ At AIIMS Hospital, 75 doctors have resigned over than past 10 years. The biggest reason for them to leave is the poor salary,” according to Hanada. More doctors left them jobs in the public service, which, makes India, face a serious problem, especially with poor Indian people; according to the World Heath Organization, the number of doctors in India stand at 645.825. The number of doctors per 1.000 people is 0.6”.

In conclusion, India has a lot of things to become the “medical power”, but they should provide good public service for the Indian people or at least let them go to the private hospital and pay lower prices than foreign people because Indian people don’t have insurance system. It is a good move from the government of India to improve the economy by opening the medical Tourism and they win the forging people, but someday they will lose the Indian people.
