Oil Drilling in The Pacific

According to Gismatullion’s article “Shell $20 Bln Sakhalin Unit Criticized Ecologists", Royal Dutch Shell Plc and its partners to take big loan from The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with the bank will decided if they will provide money for the Sakhalin-2 gas project. The U.S.-based Pacific Environment group said "it does have a huge bearing on whether or not western banks and public banks will ultimately finance the project”, because this project could kill off the world's last 100 western gray whales and it is a shame for those banks if provide money for the Sakhalin project. But on the outer hand Shell co. said Feb. 24."Sakhalin Energy and the shareholders have always aspired to the highest standards with this project, the highest environmental and social standards,'' also they excess that Sakhalin improve its environmental and social standards since project started in 1994.

The evolution of technology in the 20th century led to a sharp increase in the oil consumption around the world. Extraction huge oil quantities from the Earth spicily from Pacific area used source of energy and essential raw material in various industries, especially chemical industries. There are some common methods to transfer oil from where it is extracted to wherever it is used. Long pipes, ships, and oil trucks are among the methods of oil delivery. These methods are not away from riskiness. For instances, ships might drawn in the ocean causing significant pollution to the marine environment. There are also risks for using other methods. Sakhalin 1 and 2 projects are away from being safe to the marine inhabitants in the ocean. Many studies warned against those two projects as they threaten the life of the last hundred grey whales living there.

It is not a secret that this project threatens the marine environment in the ocean. As result European governments have recently expressed concern over the Sakhalin 1 and 2 project. Oil is a material and effective functioning international political events and is use as a weapon to achieving people’s goals. Oil companies stand behind the controls on the future of the world and they have common interests with oil companies

Sakhalin 2 poses many threats; it is almost destroying the natural life in Sakhalin Island. Mitsubishi group and Mitsui CO developing Oil transfer natural gas from Sakhalin Island in Russian to US and Asia. This presses effective in the world's largest liquid natural gas facility and immense associated greenhouse gas emissions, Imperils the most critically endangered gray whale population in the world and 11 other endangered species and promotes an unsustainable development path for Russia, which will receive billions of dollars less in revenues from the project than was anticipated.

In Conclusion, Sakhalin project 1 and 2 started of on a bad footing in environment, health, and social issues. And Russian government should find a way to stop this project even if they will lose a lot of money to save natural environment in the Sakhalin Island and keep the special animals in safe. This, in fact, is more important than the profits they going to collect from the project.
